Distant Suns 4.0 Space Visions
-------------------------------
Installation Instructions
-------------------------
I. To use Space Visions on a Floppy only system:
1. BEFORE executing Distant Suns 4.0, insert the Installation disk
into any floppy drive.
2. Double click on the Installation disk's (S11) icon.
3. Double click on the AssignFloppy icon.
4. You are now ready to run Distant Suns 4.0. To view the Full
Screen Images on any of the Space Visions disks, insert the
desired disk.
5. Select the Identify option from the Mouse Control menu.
6. Select the Solar System option from the Search menu.
7. Click on the object appropriate for the disk you have loaded.
(ie. with the Mars from Orbit disk you would click on the
planet mars.) To view the earth associated images, change your
Point of View to another planet, and Search for Earth, and
click on the Earth.
Note --- You need to do steps 4 - 7 each time you change the Space
Visions disk you are viewing. The S11 disk contains the
needed brushes for use with the Deep Sky Objects on S08.1
and S08.2.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Important note for Hard Disk owners!!! Space Visions in its entirety
takes about 21 megabytes of storage. If you are installing the
entire set onto your hard disk, make sure you have enough room
BEFORE starting the procedure below. To determine how much free
space you have available, open a Shell or CLI, and type the word
'info' (without the '') followed by pressing the Return key. Under
the 'Free' column across from the name of your hard disk you need
to see a number greater than 41000. If you do not have this much
space, you may want to load only select portions of Space Visions
by using the Install.S__ scripts rather than running the Install.All.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
II. To install any part of Space Visions or All of Space Visions on
a hard disk, you must do the following:
1. Insert the Installation disk (S11) into any drive.
2. Double click on the S11 Disk icon.
3. Double click on the Install.Start icon.
4. Double click on your Distant Suns drawer on your hard disk.
You should see the Icons 'ds_4.0', 'ds_4.0_hr', 'data1' and
'data2' plus some others.
5. Insert Space Visions Disk S01.1 in any drive.
6 Double click on the Space Vision Disk icon.
7. DRAG!!! (do not double click yet) the Install.S##.# icon
from the Space Vision Disk window into the Distant Suns
window and release.
8. Double click on the Install.S##.# icon that you have just
placed in the Distant Suns window, NOT the one that remains
in the InstallHD window.
9. Discard the Install.S##.# icon from the Distant Suns drawer.
10. Remove the Space Vision Disk and insert the next Space Vision
disk. Repeat steps 6 through 10 for each set of Space Visions
you wish to install. (ie. if installing S01, repeat for disks
S01.1 and S01.2) DO NOT install a partial set!!! (ie. do not
install S07.1 and S07.2 without also installing S07.3 and S07.4.
Distant Suns will behave in an unpredictable manner if you do.
11. If you have installed the ENTIRE 25 disk set, double click
on the Install.Final icon in the S11 window.
12. You may now run Distant Suns 4.0. If you have installed the
entire set, you will see the 'fsi' button active for each of
the planets in the solar system when you click on it, except for
the planet Pluto. There are no images for Pluto. Select the
Identify option from the Mouse Control menu.
13. Select the Solar System option from the Search menu.
14. Click on the object appropriate for the disk you have loaded.
(ie. with the Mars from Orbit disk you would click on the
planet mars.) To view the earth associated images, change your
Point of View to another planet, and Search for Earth, and
click on the Earth.
Note --- When installing individual sets of Space Visions disks,
the last set installed takes precedence over previous
sets installed. This is because the sets use the same
object names to keep their lists. The 'Install.Final'
script merges all of these together for use with the
ENTIRE set.
